nelson mandela and apartheid
an apartheid is a form of segregation that existed in south africa against blacks. blacks werent allowed to vote and in some places only one race was allowed to go in. they even made it so you cant have mixed relationships this was an extreme of segregation where blacks had almost no rights. nelson mandela is recognized for liberating and unifying south africa he had a gandhi like idealism for liberating africa he used non violence to get his point across and spent 27 years in prison for this and when he came out instead of being mad and wanting to call for violence he continues with a protest of non violence. i think the authors admire nelson mandela so much because he never gave up not even after spending 27 years in prison all that time in prison would just suck the fight out of a man but he stayed with his beliefs and never lost hope and when he came out of prison the very next day he started to help his people by pounding rocks into gravel. mandela was willing to go to the end of the world to have his dreams come true and to make his people happy

african independence
many countries in africa gained theyre independence between the years 1955-1975 in those 20 years more then 25 countries gained theyre independence. most of the countries got theyre independence in the 1960s. africans had several leaders that helped theyre countries be free from european control. leopold senghor was a educated man who read american poetry and listened to jazz music helped free senghol from the europeans by making poems that showed what was going on and the europeans gave them independance. another african movement leader who helped liberate the gold coast was kwame nkrumah he encouraged non violent protests like gandhi. he was educated he was a teacher and he studies in the united states in the 1940s. he would organize strikes and boycotts to fight european control. and was arrested several times but in the end it worked cause the gold coast got its independence and called itself ghana.

film lesson : the right stuff
in the movie the right stuff we saw certain scenes in wicth it shows how the soviets and the americans were competing to see witch super power was more powerful then the other. in the movie every move the russians did the americans tried to take it to the next level and every move the americans made russia tried to take it to the next level. in the movie the russians had reached space with the russian satelite sputnik and a memorable scene to me is when all the americans are in a room saying how they have to beat russians and have to take it to the next level. this movie shows the competition of the two super powers and how the countries can be like babies just to have more power then the other.

film lesson night and fog
my reaction to the film was i was expecting to see some pretty gruesome stuff but my imagination wasnt expecting the kind of brutality that the germens were doing there. i found night and fog to be the more straight forward and show you exactly what was going with the nazis. and in shindlers list it showed more of a softer side for the jews.

film lesson shindlers list
the film shindlers list portrayed the holocaust by showing the cruel treatment and brutality that the jews had to undergo with hitler being in charge. one scene that was pretty powerful was the scene where the germens are starting to lose the war so they begin to get rid of and execute the jews and they piled up all of the bodies and burnt them to ashes to get rid of any evidence on what was going on in the camps. another scene that will stay with me is near the end of the movie when shindler tells all his workers that the war is over and they can all go free and then he tells the nazi officers that are there that if they feel as if he is betraying the nazis that they can shoot down all of the jews that are right there in front of them and the nazi officers didnt this scene will stay with me because i could see that shindler cared for the jews that were working for them and looked at them as normal people by telling them what was going on in the war i find the documentary more impacting because it showed real videos of the dead jews and the mistreatment that was going on in the camps

film Lesson: "Gandhi"
gandhi wanted to make india its own country but he wanted a specific way to do it. he used non violence to gain his independence. that if he was to be struck he would not strike back to make the english look like they were the bad guys. gandhi was put in jail numerous times for what he was doing. but his people kept on pushing and getting hurt for freedom gandhi had an idea an eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind that is why he allowed it that only his people lose the eye so the rest of the world can see the wrong of the english
